Five-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer beat 13th-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 Monday night to reach the quarterfinals at a 26th consecutive Grand Slam tournament and set up an intriguing rematch with Robin Soderling. Djokovic rolls into quarterfinals (AP)
Third-seeded Novak Djokovic rolled into his sixth straight Grand Slam quarterfinal, defeating Mardy Fish in straight sets. Djokovic beat the 19th-seeded Fish 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 on Monday. Djokovic converted 6 of 8 break points. Djokovic, the 2008 Australian Open champ from Serbia, has reached at least the semifinals at Flushing Meadows the last three years.

Cibulkova upsets erratic Kuznetsova (AP)
Two-time major champion Svetlana Kuznetsova double-faulted 10 times and was upset by 45th-ranked Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 7-5, 7-6 (4) in the fourth round of the U.S. Open on Monday. Cibulkova reached her first quarterfinal at Flushing Meadows despite being treated by a trainer for a left leg problem between sets.

No. 5 Soderling moves on to quarters (AP)
No. 5 Robin Soderling advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open, serving 15 aces in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 victory over 21st-seeded Albert Montanes on Monday. Soderling, a popular dark-horse pick because of his past success against Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, moved to the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows for the second straight year.
